240 regular season wins, 138 losses, a 3.48 ERA, 2,251 strikeouts, 1.35 WHIP, 19-10 in post-season (playoffs wins record), 5 World Series titles, 8 World Series appearances (literally half of his career he pitched in the Fall Classic)
He was never THE best but was ALWAYS consistent..HOF??
Buzz-saw thoughts write up coming soon....

No chance at the Hall because he admitted to juicing and that will be held against him
ReplyDeleteHe did and it will hurt his case due to it being borderline. I do think the hall should take steroid guys in a case by case basis and of course only hold it against you if you there is proof (Bonds), admitted it (Mac etc), or failed a test (Raffy). Andy falls in one of those categories and his regular season numbers are not that impressive (more hits allowed then innings pitched in his career). If he gets in it will be after a waiting period. I do believe the wait would have happened regardless of roids. Bert Blyleven had to wait 14 years despite better regular season numbers and about 30 more wins and 2 rings. Schilling with plenty of playoff success has 24 less wins than Andy but has more single seasons of dominance (finished 2nd in Cy Young twice behind other HOF's). Pettitte has no shot at first ballot, that talk is absurd, but could get in down the road if steroid guys are lightened up on (I don't think this will happen). Baseball is such a numbers game the real shame for him would be if he stayed and earned about 30 or so more wins on top of playoff pitching records he would have a much greater chance at Cooperstown.
