49. San Francisco 49ers -- Taylor Mays, S, USC
Terrific selection by the 49ers picking at spot 49 in the second round. Mays is a guy who will excel in a zone-coverage based defense as a deep safety. Mays to San Francisco was one of the places that I thought his skill set could really be used well.
50. Kansas City Chiefs (from Atlanta) -- Javier Arenas, CB, Alabama
Really? A nickel corner in round two? Over Terrence Cody? I'm in shock. Kansas City still failing to address the all important nose tackle position.
51. Minnesota Vikings (from Houston) -- Toby Gerhardt, RB, Stanford
I think Minnesota realized Houston was going to take a running back, but I don't see why Minnesota made this a priority. Trading up for a back in a very deep draft class, especially for a guy with a similar style to Peterson is strange. Why didn't they grab a scat back to replace Taylor? Are they serious about Darius Reynaud being the scat back? Or Albert Young? Puzzling.
52. Pittsburgh Steelers -- Jason Worilds, OLB, Virginia Tech
You can never have too many pass rushers...and Harrison is getting up in their in age, but this is still a pretty shocking pick to me. Terrence Cody could have been the heir apparent to Casey Hampton.
53. New England Patriots -- Jermaine Cunningham, DE/OLB, Florida
Really shocked that the Patriots would reach on Cunningham, but it wasn't a gigantic reach. They addressed the dire need at outside linebacker, and Cunningham is a high motor guy, but his production doesn't match his draft status.
54. Cincinnati Bengals -- Carlos Dunlap, DE, Florida
The Bengals love collecting talented and underachieving pass rushers. Last year they grabbed the Georgia Tech giraffe Michael Johnson who has incredible upside but never produced to his level of talent. If the Bengals could magically get Dunlap and Johnson to play at the top level they'll have the best pass rush in the AFC. Doubtful though that they both do it.
55. Dallas Cowboys (from Philadelphia) -- Sean Lee, ILB, Penn State
The Cowboys have really helped their front seven in the last two drafts grabbing Jason Williams at ILB last year and Lee this year, but I'm still very concerned about a leaky Cowboys secondary that has a gaping hole at free safety.
56. Green Bay Packers -- Mike Neal, DT/DE, Purdue
I'm a huge fan of Purdue defenders. They have a hell of a pedigree--Alex Magee, Anthony Spencer, Shaun Phillips, Cliff Avril...they've all become serviceable players (and in Spencer's case excellent). Neal will play end in the Packers 3-4 defense as a five-tech. This should say a lot about their faith in Justin Harrell ever staying healthy. The Packers have a ton of depth on the DL now.
