Here is my contention in the ROY debate. It should be Tyreke Evans.

Before I start I would like to say that Curry and Evans are both tremendous talents and could eventually be a staple in the All-Star Game back-court in years to come. However I do believe that Tyreke Evans has been the most outstanding rookie of the 2009 draft class.

First off I want to adress Ramos' argument that one of the reasons Curry should win is that Evans is not a natural point guard. This argument is not only fallacious, it is irrelevant. Sure, Evans might not be a point guard like Jason Kidd or Rajon Rondo, but he is a point guard none the less. It doesn't matter because this award isn't given to the most "natural" point guard, it is given to the best rookie. Besides, how much more of a natural point guard can Curry be if he averages .1 assists(5.9, not 6) than Evans(5.8)?

Second of all the claim the Evans had more talent around him is absolute REDICULOUS. Monta Ellis (25ppg 2spg) is an exceptional player on both sides of the ball. Corey Magette put up close to 20 per game and is a great scorer. When you look at it, the Warriors have one of the better scoring backcorts in the league. Bad coaching situation?? Don Neslon was voted one of the 10 best coaches off all time and has more wins than, well everyone. I'm not sure what Curry did to make any of these players "better" by the way. How are you going to give ROY to a player that didn't start for half of a season?

But let's not talk about why Curry isn't the ROY, let's talk about why Evans is. It can be summed up in one word, consistency.

Tyreke Evans has put up 20ppg 5.3rp 5.8apg ALL SEASON. Michael Jordan, Lebron James, and Oscar Robertson did not become the game's elite by only performing at a high level the final 48 games of every season, they put up those numbers throughout an 82 game stretch. Tyreke Evans came into Sacromento, took on the role as the franchise player, and performed to the best of his ability. A performance which clearly exceeded the rest of this years outstanding rookie class the entire season, not just one game like Brandon "Iverson" Jennings' 55 point game or a half season surge like Curry's. Great players perform at a high level for 82 games, and these performances should be rewarded.
