NCAA Did A Great Job This Year... NOT!!!

The field of 68 was announced yesterday and once again the NCAA totally and utterly screwed it up. Gene Smith the head of the committee has just moved ahead of David Stern for dumbest figures in sports.

Malcolm Delany and Seth Greenburg will be
heading to their fourth straight NIT Tournament. 

The biggest snub has to be Virginia Tech. Those poor Hokies, their luck is about as good as someone who just moved to Japan. In all honesty the bubble should just be renamed the Hokie. Four years in a row Va Tech was on the bubble and all four years they missed out. I am pretty sure Seth Greenburg is close to the Tyson Zone and is probably all for the world ending in 2012.

Va Tech went 21-11 and 9-7 in ACC play, but hey that's just not good enough these days. If Charlie Sheen coined "winning" then Seth Greenburg has coined "close to winning". That's basically what Virginia Tech is, they are close to winning but they are not fully winning. You would think a win against Duke and a win against Florida State would get Virginia Tech off the "Hokie" (bubble).

Last season they were told that they needed tougher out of conference opponents, so this year they scheduled Kansas State, UNLV and Purdue all tournament teams. Yes they lost to all three but hey they did what you asked them to do. They dropped a couple dubbed against Virginia and Georgia Tech but the win against Duke and Florida State should out way those loses.

There is no way in the world that VCU deserved a spot over Virginia Tech. VCU finished 23-11 and didn't even finish in the top 2 of the CAA. Are you kidding me? VCU being in this tournament is more surprising then Sammie cheating on Ron on the Jersey Shore.

For years the NCAA has been getting it wrong, but you would think expanding the tournament from 64 to 68 teams would would correct this problem. There is no question that this is the weakest field ever with all these 11, 12 and 13 loss teams. But again teams like VCU and UAB do not deserve do be in the dance. Recently a couple coaches came out and said college basketball needs a BCS like system. That makes a lot sense. Lets screw up the best thing in sports even more. Lets use the formula that 98 percent of America hates and Congress has tried to shut down. I understand these coaches are upset, rightfully so but if your going to complain at least do so sensibly. Do not go on the record saying March Madness should be like the BCS, that is just stupid.

So where does the tournament go from here? Well who know's, every year someone is snubbed it's just how it goes and this year it was Virginia Tech. I feel for Va Tech they deserved it this year, more than any other year and if they want to go out and prove how pissed they are then win the NIT. No really, if they don't win the NIT then I don't want to hear it. They are the most talented team in that field and should win. If they win and UAB/VCU gets bounced in the first round they they can say hey look at us.

I do know one thing, thank god they did not expand to 96 teams. There was a record this year for 13 loss teams, had they expanded it to 96 I am pretty sure we would have had a couple under .500 teams in the tournament. March Madness will still be great and once again it will be great with teams that should not be there.
