Jim Calhoun and the Connecticut Huskies won their 3rd National Championship after a 53-41 victory over the Butler Bulldogs. It may have been ugly but the ring will still look and feel the same. Kemba Walker joins Rip Hamilton, Ray Allen, Ben Gordon and many others to lead a UCONN squad to the crown of College Basketball's NCAA tournament. This NCAA title came in Calhoun and the Huskie's 4th Final Four and marks the Big Easts 4th standing as king of the March Madness mountain top since UCONN's first such win in 1999.
Despite the loss, nothing should take away from Butler's 2 year long magic carpet ride. Brad Stevens had to deal with his team captain and leading scorer, Gordon Hayward, leave for the NBA's Utah Jazz, yet still brought his mid major squad back to a place no one predicted they'd be. Many other great teams / programs failed to claim a win in the NCAA championship game back to back years. We all remember Michigan's Fab Five, they lost to Duke & UNC respectively (shout out to the C. Webb timeout fan club). The 1992 and 1993 Wolverine's are still widely regarded as a remarkable run, so will and should Butler. Brad Stevens may still be without that elusive National Championship ring, but, he still has as many Final Fours as Bob Huggins, and 2 more than Jamie Dixon and Hall of Famer John Cheney.
