After 41 Years In Baseball Sweet Lou Walks Away.

As a player for the team he was most associated with during his playing days, the New York Yankees.

Piniella managed the Yankees from 1986-1988.

After taking a year off Sweet Lou took over in Cincinnati with the Reds.

Piniella's spent most of his managerial career, 1993-2002 as the skipper of the Seattle Mariners.

After leaving Seattle following the 2001 ALCS Lou went home to Tampa to take over as the head man of the the team then known as the Devil Rays. This was by far his least successful stay of his entire career as a player or manager. Despite that fact some of the carry over Rays have said Piniella taught them about winning before they actually did it following his departure.

Pictured here in one of his many outbursts during his last job, manager of the Chicago Cubs, the one he is now leaving upon his retirement. Piniella hoped to break the Cubbies 100+ year title curse upon his arrival in 2007. He was not so lucky, however, became the first Cubs skipper since the franchises last championship, 1908, to lead the team to back to back post-seasons.
